Stretching before Exertion

Well, its been quite some time since I used Ye ol'Free thought muscle..

That considered, I shan't tonight either. Maybe tomorrow morning..

Just a question;

Why must us males always seek, so quickly, a finite solution??

Taxed and Wacked (like totally)

Well a new University session has begun and I'm playing observer.
The End of last session was all too much for me.
Heaps of stuff happening with my family (heaps of stuff).
So, I'm attempting to take a well earned rest. I have yet to feel any benefits..
Probably Because I have always had trouble with being stiil..

The new house is shaping up to be a happy home. I'm getting used to not having a door on my room. I really have an open door policy now. Young Ross in his own special way picks inoppurtune times to come up the stairs...Yes Ross, I wear boxers...

Mmm Nothing else really happening..

You'd like your lover to think you are stylish and alluring.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was emotional, moody, and difficult to please.

Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.

Breezy Blossoms

Well, it's Friday. There's no denying that small fact, and why would I? Each week is passing with the dull ringing of a large gong which indicates the impending doom(and breath). I know, I know, “Simon, cut the melodramatics” you cry.

I’ll give you something to cry about…

Nah, it’s not all that bad. This weekend is going to be my most relaxing so far this session. I only have 2 assignments and a MatLAB program due next week. I’m glad I took the last 2 days off, I was so incredibly shredded.

Anyhow, last night Eltham had a crew around and we watched American Beauty. I think this movie is exceptionally well done, and I love Kevin Spacey’s work, However I don’t think it’s a movie I want to see again in a hurry. The wife/mother in that movie is so incredibly joyless and fake, not only that but the way she forces this façade upon the rest of the family, would make most single guys shudder and fear marital commitments. Exactly the kind of reinforcement I need. “Run, Simon, run”.….

mmmm… Some things are worth the perseverance. AB really is quite a disturbing movie, and it’s meant to be, but the statement it makes on the development and decay of society and the individual is both brave and fair. I’m sure Amanda was disturbed by different things, to that of which I was. I’m sure over lunch today we’ll have a debriefing session.

Lessons learnt:
Don’t buy expensive Lounges, or you’ll be afraid to use them.

If you want a car buy it.(don’t be concerned about practicality)

Winners don’t do drugs.

Keep your clothes on while working out.

Be real.

Keep all communication lines open

The World is full of beauty. Just stop, breath, and take it in.

Sim’s note:

Sometimes the most beautiful things are in the actions of those around you. I did say sometimes.

And on the 45x^3+5x^2-7x+23rd day he rested.

Well it is almost 2 days since my previous post and I’m glad to report, that for that period of time I have just sat on my sweet, sweet, derriere. My brain is beginning to function again. I am remembering all my useless trivia again(phew), and I am able to think about other people not just myself. I’ve been listening to quite a bit of the bible in audio format, and primus, oh man, I forgot how awesome Les Claypool is, sorry Les.

Star Wars was viddy’d last night, um this mornin’, It’s almost everything I wanted, and it’s more than I expected. I will say no more.

Mummy, I don't wann go to school today.

Today was a tuesday. Stuff was due at 0930hrs. With the help of many random people, including a Peoples, I was able to string together some fairly accptable results. However the 5 days prior of less than 3 hours sleep, combined with lastnights all nighter have definately taken their toll.

Believe it or not I have 2 more assignments due early next week, so tomorrow I have to start the whole process all over again. I tell you, it's a good thing that batteries come in 24 packs, just a shame they don't work in humans.

Yesterday's Shadow

Amongst the bustle and turmoil of the university scene, where young 'soon to be's' study, laugh, eat and drink, sit an old man. With his back to the glass, and his face to the crowded bar, he sits. Invisible to some, out of place to others, unapproached by all, he sits alone.

A picture of contentment? The old man sits, an almost empty schooner by his hand. Wide, open eyes survey the crowd. He sits there day after day, yet, only the Barman knows his name, but that’s his job isn’t it?

The student is a creature of bondage. Enslaved to deadlines and computer terminals like they are the source of its existence. It’s time between classes is precious. It’s Focus is this….. I must study, so I can be recognised, so I can be given money, so I can feel fulfilled.

The student rules it’s domain. Struts around thinking “all serve me”, and it’s true. The ground staff, the food staff, The Bar staff, the lecturers, even other students serve. However, this old man doesn’t fit into a category where the student can see how he can serve them.

What can a university student ever learn from an old man?

The old Man’s name is Stevie. He turns 80 in June. Scottish born, came to Australia when he was 27, retired from work before some university students I know were born. His story is one of pain sorrow, and beauty. He has an amazing heart, and a drive that many today lack. The unibar is his “local”.

This man can show us whipper snappers, what life is. Life appears in the lines on his face, the gleam in his eyes, and the hardness of his hands. His time in the trades, the people he has spoken with, the hardship confronted and bested. These are precious things. My generation does not spend enough time sitting in awe of the stories of our forefathers. Let alone comforting and serving them.

Pray for Stevie, and say hi to him. He’s in the Wollongong Unibar almost everyday.

Dreading to Drear? or Drearing to dread?

Well the day began as the clock ticked it's tocking last night, well this morning, at midnight. "One constant in a world of variables, a man alone" on his computer, struggling with too many assignments. The keys on my Board, or otherwise known as the human interface device(It's amazing that humans are now seen as peripheral extensions of computers), clicked and clacked as I displayed, to myself, my general wizardry of the Equation Editor function on both assignments I was working on simultaneously. Bouncing back to the other assignment as I get annoyed with the one I'm working on.

My heart sinks as I watched each of my fellow burners of the midnight lamp logoff and retreat to their personal realms of slumber. I crack my neck to the right and reopen the other assignment, frequency of this assignmental transition is beginning to increase, I know I'm just getting more irritated, it's not getting harder. As a last ditch effort to regain a positive outlook I walk out onto the balcony and release a screech which echoes from the surrounding mountains and houses. Mental apology to the neighbours.

Eltham is talking in his sleep again, that is mildly amusing. Alas, the theoretical limit for my work has been reached. To bed, retire I. As I close my eyes the alarm clock mocks me, as a sinister monster with evil intent, my solitude it already plans to destroy.

So you think you've been probed??

When the topic of aliens is risen why to people always metaphorically reach for the probe statement. So lets start with a logical question.

If the aliens are so advanced, why have they traveled across the galaxy to check out man's colon?

You don't need to answer that. I really just threw it in so I could legitimately use the title for this posting. Aliens however have been a topic that has come up a few times in the last few days. Perhaps I have aliens on the mind, perhaps they have given me an implant but I have repressed the memories of the abduction, and my subconscious is screaming out attempting to make me aware of the forgotten experience/ordeal. Perhaps we all are abductees in denial, and deNile isn't just a river in Egypt. In a word, doubtful.

When I think of aliens I kind of picture them as a cross between Predators and Klingons. Physically strong with clan pride and desire for war. I'll justify that from the simple reaeson that technological advances are usually made in times of war. Goverment funding for research is always higher when pushed by the war machine.

But lets talk hypothetically for a bit, I know Simon likes to.

If aliens do exist, then how do they fit into God's plan?

Secular opinion: They don't, they prove that the deity doesn't exist for they are actually our god's.

Aliens are such a great distraction from the truth, and I ask you, who wouldn't be seduced by such a sensational story? Logically, if some creatures where technologically superior to us we would treat them a gods. Think of the words of "Magneto" in "Xmen" he calls "Pyro" a god for his power is great. Would we stand in awe of them like the Hawaiian's stood in awe of Captain Cook, before they struck him down?

We must ask ourselves, why does man seek for another to put above him in the chain of authority? To have some one to blame?

If Aliens are our creators then why the probes?
Man recognises their own dominance in creation, how we study and lord over the things "lesser" than us. We just expect the same treatment from "Higher" beings. We don't expect mercy or compassion.

Christian:The bible doesn't speak of them. I have however heard a few people use Jesus' statement of "I have another flock" to refer to aliens. I guess people can believe anything if it suits their purposes. The mormon's use this statement to speak of the Sth American faction of God's people.

Let's just assume they do exist as the Bible doesn't talk about everything. We are often required think apply biblical perspectives to things that we have today that we didn't have yesterday. E.g. "Do not covet your neighbor's ass" could easily refer to someone else's new remote control car. So lets just apply some biblical principles.

Is God Just?

Well this is really just a bastardisation of "What about the nonchristians in deepest darkest Peru?". I guess if they do exist there's a few ways of looking at this. Hold on we're stepping on the roller coaster.

"Evangelise them" said Amanda, and rightly so. If the whole world was to blessed through Abraham, why not the whole universe? Surely if they are our exploring the universe they are looking for answers. Let's give them the truth. It's here Eltham brought up an interesting point.

"Would they be redeemed through the cross?"

Good question. Jesus became man to take man's place of deserved punishment. Aliens, although they may be sentient beings, are not of the line of Adam so I guess they don't. Ross brought up the idea of angels being redeemed, which was a helpful, yet still confusing, parallel. Angels and aliens differ, as Angels are/were God's messengers and have stood alongside God. So does that mean Christ had to be resacrificed? For God is Just and aliens do exist and there is a means by which they are saved; Did God just ask Jesus to do it all over again?

"Perhaps God is more than a trinity"(Eltham). Humans have constructed the trinity from a biblical understanding of how God exists and operates. Is it possible that Jesus has other brothers who died for the sins of each race of aliens? Well, that is not in the bible.

Assume that aliens are covered by the cross, then, "Perhaps God has given them prophets"(Eltham). Perhaps he has. He could have also given them the law as a shadow of the things to come.

I guess the important thing really is not to get carred away with the pursuit of aliens, but rather, continue in the pursuit of Godliness.

Easiest Post ever

Well, I believe I'm to consider this a virus. A virus which Joe has vomited upon me. I feel the stench and warmth of those that have been infected prior to my involvement. So here it goes. It's gonna be quick as I want to get some bible reading in before I head off tomorrow morning.

You're stuck inside Fahrenheit 451. Which album are you going to be?
Easy one. I'm gonna be an album that people can't help but be distracted by: Like it or love it, You get stuck listening. Jeff Wayne's Musical adaption of War of the Worlds. A sobering thought as the moog rips into sweet candy goodness, something out there is more advanced than even mankind. "The chances of anything coming from Mars were a million to one, but still they come."

Have you ever had a crush on a musician/pop star?
Yeah.. hehe..shucks. There was this all chick band called Toto Ceolo. As a child I was dazzled by TC's big hair and 80's chick vocals. There's something about that half yodel thing that chicks did in the 80's. I still love one of their songs to this day is called "I eat cannibal", awesome.

The last album you bought was...
Mmm.. this is actually a good question. This particular CD I had been chasing for quite some time. "Rollins Band- Weight". Now I really dig Henry Rollins for his passion, and his dead set ferosity that he attacks issues. On this Album is another of my all time favourite songs, for lyrics. "Liar" is not a song for the faint hearted it is a emotional and mental rollercoaster. Pregnant women and people with heart conditions please consult you physician before partaking in this activity. Henry can put pain to music like few others and this is a fantastic example.

The last album you listened to was...
Well... I still have a track to go, but that would be; Dream Evil-The Book of Heavy Metal. What a great album. I must return this copy to it's rightful owner and Buy my own copy. Yes, my own copy. Is it good?? yes. Somewhere between tongue in cheek and brilliant.

What are you currently listening to?
Scorpions-Tease me Please Me. One of the songs by the scorpions I don't know all that well, the joys of shuffle on such a large playlist. Lots of squealing guitars, poor subject matter. I've always been impressed with their grasp of the english language. These guys are totally sweet.

Five albums you would take to a desert island...
I'm gonna cheat on this one and throw in some best ofs.
The first three are really an easy choice, they inhabited the 3 disc carousel at my old flat for almost 3 years, the eject button got dusty.
The Scorpions-Gold It is exactly that, Gold. Just about everyone I've shown the Scorpions have gone out and bought their own cd's and this cd has a good assortment of gold. Note:the afore mentioned "tease me please me" does not appear on that cd
Pink Floyd-Darkside of the Moon Atmospheric goodness
Type O Negative-Bloody Kisses Dark and melodic, yet, they are able to not take them too seriously. Some of their other albums really fail to capture beauty and terror like this one
Black Sabbath-Dehumaniser Post Ozzy things continued. This album is a showcase of TI on guitars branching and realling seeking to make noise in the progressive way of things, with Dio providing vocals, this is a sweet album. One track, "time machine", even lending itself to the WAynes WOrld sound track.. this is not the Black SAbbath you know.
Jimi Hendrix-Ultimate Experience The guy was good, the music is great I still learn from it. A guitarist is lying if he thinks he fully comprehends Hendrix. I love Vai but Hendrix was in another dimension, not just drug induced.

What is the next album you would procure, had you the choice?
I remember a math test I did once, which taught me to read all questions before starting any. Have I learnt my lesson?? No. As previously stated "Dream Evil"-"The Book of Heavy Metal"

Which musician/singer would you most like to spend the day with and why?
Jack Black, he has albums and he sings. Cool guy. I'm sure he'd be fun to throw cheezels at for and afternoon.

Who are you going to pass this stick to (3 persons) and why?
Lachlan-He will have something to say, just try and stop him, I wont.(grin)
Karen B-Cause her responses will be gramatically correct and well formated so they will be a pleasure to read.
Ben B- To see if he and Karen partner up in their 10(combined) cd's for the desert island.

Rock on..

Nobody likes a Cynic?

Well after a conversation regarding a post I made which nullified, with my usual flamboyance and absurdity, a "cynical statement" a particular party had made. I have decided to make amends for this most evil of actions by spending the next week writing more in the character of my old self. So expect cynical postings, both here and on others Blogs. This is all being done in the name of art, if you'd like to call it that, and probably wont last the week. Reviewing that last composition, that I'm willing to call a sentence, this cynical thing is a snap. I mean probably just wasted effort trying to think outside the usual square anyhow.
This idea of intentional cynicism makes me think that society has really come to love it. A few years ago I used to jokingly say "I am refreshingly cynical". Think back a few years to just about every American movie in the 90's. There is always the character of "the cynic". Not only will this cynic spend the movie whining about the probability of certain doom but he will also survive till the credits roll. I’m thinking Jurassic Park here, and less face it Jeff Goldblum is the master of this “loved” cynicalist ( I wanted a few more letters here, and you did too I know it). His character redeemed “Jurassic Park”, and again in “Independence day”. We as a collective of consumers are accepting, and enjoying, that Hollywood is presenting us alternatives to the face value truth ala “conspiracy theory”. I don’t care who you are when some obscure myth is presented in a movie you smile and nod, you just do. Movies are not alone in this promotion of cynicism and public mistruth, or to be in the lingo (and get a few more random googlers and yahoo’ians) disinformation, “the Da Vinci code” continues to be a best seller holding aloft the banner of conspiracy and cover up. “Disinformation” (that should really bring ‘em in) from any great institution, well at least the suggestion that some exists, makes societies proverbial mouths water.
Am I being to cynical in thinking that we have lost the ability to reason? Are we really just jumping on the band wagon with every accusation any creative mind concocts? Are you reading my words through your own glasses of +15 cynicism? My answer to all of these is YES. I am cynical, but WE ARE losing the ability to rationally reason. WE DO run along with every elaborate accusation that excites us with possibilities, and you too are conditioned to be cynical.
Is all cynicism bad? It definitely has its place. Children are told “not to talk to strangers” for a good reason; Strangers have candy and candy rots the teeth. Children know this and they know that parents are hiding this truth from them. Every time children visit that other stranger wearing the white coat, in the cold funny smelling room with a bed, he/she gives them candy. Surely it is then reasonable assume that all strangers bring candy. Now who holds the rational cynicism, the parents or the children? If you are going to be cynical and reason that someone is out to get you, then set your basis of assumption on something a little more solid than “My brother’s friend’s mother’s squash partner’s daughter’s boyfriend saw…” cause really those stories amount to “absolutely nothing. Which is what you’re about to become”. You could also try seeking the truth. The whole world is not disinformation. It is hard to see the forest from the trees when you spend your whole time looking down. Take a walk, enjoy the rain (or even the sunshine), look at creation. Chin up. Don’t discount the truth because you associate it with an institution. Institutions are usually started with the best of intentions upon a solid a reliable truth. Seek for yourself, I guess now I’m thinking of the bible. So don’t discount the truth of life and salvation, or even refuse a gift merely because of mere speculation.

Rejoice for Relent

Hallelujah, Hallelujahs to the Almighty. It appears s though I was not the only one suffering from the workload in Quantum physics. The lecturer as lowered the amount of work each week. Such a very necessary move, I had maybe two more weeks at that pace before I fell apart. Tactical, tactical. No matter what he does now it’s not going to feel like much work. Now maybe I’ll have enough time to hangout, call, or just try and encourage some of youse. Perhaps even resurrect my shattered reading schedule, or even, heaven forbid, work on one of the other subjects. The possibilities are endless. Amen.

Surreality

I don’t know how many of you out there have seen the Coen Bro’s Masterpiece “The Big Lebowski”. When watching the DVD release of said production every 2nd chapter is a Ten Pin Bowling scene, my weekend was a lot like that. Let me see if I can capture a bit of this Harmonic oscillation.
Saturday morning I awoke. Spending about 40minutes reviewing the weeks work on a few assignment problems before heading down for breakfast. After food it was back the books Managing to get a problem out of the way quite quickly. Thus, feeling rather pleased with myself treated myself to some Knights of the Old Republic, KOTOR to those in the know. Much to my relief and dismay I finished that game in about 30-40minutes, keeping in mind that I had already spent about 48hrs on it to get to where I was. After watching the end movies (on the game) I returned to the books until lunch. After lunch it was back to the books until Amanda popped around briefly till Ross reminded the 2 of us that I still had a long way to go. So, Amanda went home and I returned to my books. Finishing 2 more questions off before dinner was quite a relief…
When I step outside and look back on Simon and the pattern in which he lives, you see that no matter how well crafted an art movie is it can’t reflect the intricacies and unexpectedness of real life. With this in mind, it’s no wonder that reality TV is taking such a stranglehold on most peoples lives. For many Spontaneous, genuine despair is much more fulfilling to the average viewer than any composed and scripted artwork mimicking that of real life. You can watch TV for that if you wish.. I personally will save the Electricity and sit quietly in a corner watching, or even, partaking as the calamity unfolds around me. Life is for reality, TV is for art. What about “The News”?? I hear a few of you protest. That, my friends, is why we have computers. Now go for a walk in town.

Beards, Bridget and Boredom

Well the week thus far has been a dead set killer. Having carried my fatigue of last week well into this week. On Tuesday, I gave blood. The action of giving blood is not something one should do when they are already low on energy, approximately 2 hrs after I bled I got a headache. I'm a bad patient at the best of times. All I wanted to do Tuesday afternoon was lay down and be quiet, thankfully, Manda also seemed keen for similar endeavours. So, a movie was watched. Much to many of you red meat eating, beer swilling, cheese dipping, flannel wearing, pick-up driving, fart producing blokes out there's shock and dismay the movie was "Bridget Jones’s Diary". Anyone who knows me will tell you, I am one of the most anti-chick-flick type duderinos out there walking this sphere we call the earth. For the record, I still hold true to those values. Although it had some "cute" moments, and I like seeing Hugh Grant getting walloped, as much as I enjoy a fine glass of Milo in the evening, the thought process behind all decisions in this movie were absolutely disturbing. But it was good to crash on the couch and then pull the movie to pieces afterwards with Manda.
I have also been quite lazy of late, I don't think I have shaved since Mark and Tash's wedding, about 2 weeks ago, thus, I am looking a little more Bogan-esque. But certain other people appear to be enjoying my dodgy facial pubes so for the moment I shall continue in my laziness. Really the last thing I need is more motivation to be lazy.
Last but not least boredom....Well, I don't know if its fair to call it boredom cause I'm not really bored just over the amount of questions I have to do for one subject. It's Thursday night and I've already started working on the questions for next Monday. I really don't want to pull another all nighter. I wont survive the session if I keep them up. I promise the next posting will be a fraction more positive, unless of course it's not, and then well, you'll just have to live with that.

Weekend Warrior

The weekend began with excitement. Lobby and Peoples(a person) arrived on the door step eager to begin fellowship early. Dinner of champions, with champions. C***kos (censored for supreme lack of sponsorship), sweet sweet snitzel action. Eltham and Doug inside the Beast, stereo crankin' Dream Evil, we meandered our way up Macquarie pass. It's scary to think that my 3tonne vehicle was catching up to other vehicles on such an uphill. Quite annoying too. But, it's all good for the growth of patience, Amen.
The conference was really quite challenging in getting us to ponder when and how we are supposed to wave the banner of Christ in our everyday lives in this world. I just wish I’d been able to hangout more with everyone, unfortunately uniwork was high on the priority list.
Sunday afternoon Doug and myself had some time out to glory in the engineering of the bicycle. The track was dry the downhills fast, for those of you who missed out, you really did miss out. I came a cropper merely 20 metres from the Beast, a friendly neighbourhood German Shorthaired Pointer came to see if I was alive.. Doug laughed. I laughed, then we ate chocolate.
Just east of Robertson I decided to pick up a hitchhiker, Doug at this point got relegated to the back seat. The Hitchhiker was a German dude by the name of Hardy, pleasant fellow, who really hard a fantastic admiration of nature.
My evening was burnt up, by continuing uniwork, I missed church for the second week in a row (because of this subject). Not happy Jan. Quantum physics is either going to permeate through every essence of my being or kill me.
But, the weekend has left me really questioning... It is so easy to go along to christian camps, and walk as if in the spirit, only to return to the pressures of the world and be strangled by this or that feeling distant from the spirit. I guess I'm just feeling this way 'cause it cuts me up to miss out, on being encouraged nd encouraging my brothers and sisters in Christ, for something so trivial and guaranteed to be reduntant, in the scientific community and eternally, as Quantum Physics.

Return to Splendid

Haha... I'm back online. After the rain knocked out our phone line... I was "lost and alone, with no friends and no phone". Sure evil moves fast, but, good moves faster than light, shining from your screen radiation.
The Ambo is registered just in time for the Starter motor on the Moto to blow.
Otherwise, I'm struggling with my uni workload and it's only the second week of session. My bible reading is suffering. Please pray for that.
This weekend is going to be ECU's welcoming getaway weekend...
I hope I get these assignments done so I have enough time to attend without guilt.

Call someone who cares

I would if the phones were working. Three cheers for Telstra providing an almost functioning system. Every time it rains the phones at Planet Bob get quite dodgy. Interference, static, and no connection at all. I'm getting used to not having phone, but, no phone means no internet. Ha ha, you thought I was just telling you about my current woes..Now you realise I was merely making an excuse for not being more regular with my Blog.
Fear not. During this time I have still been around the computer. Sally has lent me Knights of the Old Republic and I have put a few hours into it. I just have to tear myself away from it to continue with scholastic advancement. Speaking of which; I’m hoping to finish up this session. The subjects that I have to do are absolutely Psycho…Quantum Mechanics, Electrostatics, and Linear Algebra. On the upside, after the second lecture of Linear Algebra, I finally understand vector operations. So, I should be out of this hellish establishment, that is of course providing the dean allows me out with this Math subject. I was referred to this subject by an academic advisor as “I’m mostly sure this will be alright” said he. Scary thoughts, had I. However, I’ll trust him.
Bought a lightsaber on Wednesday, best not to ask why... especially for the fashion conscious.
Just thinking back on the last week, there’s heaps I haven’t put up; Buck’s parties, walks around Mt kiera. Blame Telstra, or, just deal.

Breakfast, Babes, and Bibles

As a general rule: I don't eat breakfast. I just don't. I really don't see the point of it; rarely is there any meat, I'm not ready to eat having just woken up, I feel grosse the rest of the day. However, 9 out of 10 nutritionists recommend kids eat wheat-bix, so I guess I also should consume something. I will usually have breakfast if there is someone there to socialise with, thus, Manda has been coming around to make sure I eat something. This is really quite humorous, as her eating habits over the last 6 months have been less than satisfactory, even by my reckoning.(Note: sunday night's meal/burger). So I ate breakfast and felt grosse for the rest of the day.

Luke and Jess, yes the couple that just had twins, are moving house. If that isn’t the most psycho thing I’ve ever heard of…. Anyhow, Manda and I went to help them pack their stuff into boxes. I’m pretty sure I have a calling to be a removalist. I spent most of the afternoon looking after Hannah, Luke and Jess’s 3 almost 4yr old. I must say I had fun dancing along with Colin Buchanan (he was on DVD). Colin taught Hannah and myself some very important lessons about God. I just can’t remember most of them ‘cause I was too busy jumping around, and some of those actions are really hard to remember, let alone keep up with.

After dinner I sat down for a touch of spiritual food with Amanda. The book of Romans was on the menu..mmm.. Tasty. T’was great to be reminded of Paul’s love for people, and how he is so easily encouraged. You know, just by the work of God and stuff… The study went on into the night and it was once again well past Amanda’s bedtime before we realised. Oh well, books aside. See ya tomorrow.

Token Pound of Post

Haha, another day which I was set firmly upon my kiester, not be confused with Kester, I don't think I saw him all day. What kind of a name is Kester anyway?? Moving right along, I really did nothing all day. Woke up about midday, and just kind of drifted around the house. Amanda stuck her head in the door, as I was doing my Blog. Irwan got a van up on two wheels out the front, then proceeded to blame te van for the rest of the day. Before I knew it, the time for church was upon me.

After Church Speed, Rowan, Josh and myself partook in a feast the likes of which many scoffed and gaped upon with disbelief. The return of the POUNDER meal. Well many have seen, the art-film, supersize me. You're aware of what a supersize meal looks like, well forget about supersizing the meal..Just do it to the burger. We start with a simple Quarter pounder, the you add 3 extra meat patties and 3 more slices of cheese, and you get the Pounder Burger. Rowan consumed like a Trojan as did myself and Speed, but Josh...he completed the challenge, but we were waiting for him. From there we continued on to After Supper Supper (ASS)

ASS was a time of chatting and laughing. Pirie was showing all the wonders of the Mac. We were all suitable impressed as to how fashion conscious a tool for word processing could be.

Home by about midnight, I was feeling lively, so just for fun, I formatted my Hard drive and did an install from scratch.. Best thing I've done all holidays. Well maybe not the best but it's liberating.

Gerringooooowne

Due to recent instructions from Amanda, as to how to slow my mind down and be able to read, I am going to write my blog the morning after the events take place. Hopefully, this process will slow me down enough to read. Apparently this advice is from Bill Hybels.

Yesterday I awoke later than usual (see previous installment for details/excuses). Irwan is getting ready to move out, so, I had to move the Ambo so he'd have better access down the side of the house. However in order for me to move the Ambo I had to get craig to move his car, even thou' we have rules about parking behind people. Found that I'd left my driver's side window down for the last week or so. Then I got into the usual morning conversation with all the lads.

I was supposed to be around Amanda's by 1100hrs, the events of the morning insured I was there by about 1137hrs, give or take 30seconds or so. The plan for the day, was to ride down to Gerringong and hang out with some of Amanda's friends. A new experience for me, not being part of that circle. We journeyed down the coast by the bike, which is the best way to get somewhere and clear one's head. The people chillin' out were pretty cool, my kinda people really. Computer literate music people, ah... refreshing. It's good to get away from people that are so driven for societial "norms", I'm so over that bollox. We left the Bash before Midnight, and all the way back I kept making sure Amanda wasn't asleep. It really wouldn't be cool if she fell asleep, then fell off the back of the moto at 100kph. I dropped her home, arriving at about the same timeas her housemate Mel. We chatted for a bit. I went home and slept..
What did I learn that day?? Mmmm, I think I was reminded why I find electronic music so boring.
However, I am looking forward to hanging out with this gang again.

Excellent Drug Arm Adventure

Well today your hero and humble narrator, Simon P. Turner Esquire, was planning on going for a picnic down to Bombo Quarry. Alas, certain peoples had to do stuff they hadn't been able to accomplish earlier in the week. So, as the joyful servant he is, my box of salad and choice cold meats was returned to the fridge, paper work on the agenda, and the day began. Bumped into Dan the man at UNI, chatted about LtU&E, then bumped into J and Sal at Officeworks.

Planet Bob was the location of the "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" screening day. Eltham had constructed a mighty fine dais, which Amanda and I perched ourselves on, feeling like Jabba (the great one). Ah, Jabba on the Dais. An unnecessary argument regarding which was better Wayne's World or the B&T series. I stayed on the sidelines thinking they come from the same school...B&T is more Sci Fi, whilst WW is usually more quotable. And, that's all I've got to say about that.

Amanda was on street van tonight, so, seeking to begin to serve with her I too went on street van. However, it was south van, not north van. I was in unfamiliar territory. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces wanting coffee, food and conversation. On the whole it was a great night... Bruce, who came out with us served like an absolute thoroughbred. Sometimes it really is hard to love the unlovely, thankfully(?) I'm constantly reminded how unlovely I am also.

Quick Day

Joe and Yymee stayed over last night, when I got downstairs they were still fast asleep. Joe was the first to awaken, no suprises there, so he was treated to an awakening of musical diversity. No full-on convo's just hanging out.. which is pretty much what I need at the moment anyhow.

Slurpee O'Clock was just abit after 1300hrs, J and Sally arrived, we watched the new "Homestarr" "Teen Girl Squad" episode, laughed, drove for Slurpees, then went shop and cook dinner for J's parents, they were treated to my Apricot Chicken, no-one died.
Janet and I wore aprons. Slow day really

Sticks of Wonder

Finally a day that starts out cool, temperature wise that is. What a good day to be cool aswell, the day I spend 5 hrs walking around a golf course with my uncle. It was quite a good game, I played exceptionally poorly, about 2 strokes over par every hole, until the 10th and 11th holes where I had a blowout, tricky bunker, and a well placed tree/fence combo. I accidently swapped balls with someone in a comp-game. However, I had a great shot out of the bunker on the 5th made the whole day memorable.

Dinner was had at the unibar before Unimovies started. I sat outside chatting with Lachlan as I waited for 2 guys from beach mission, Yymee and Joe. It was good chatting with the Lach, I think he's a stand-up guy, encouraging too. Yymee and Joe finally arrived, we blamed the lateness on Yymee's over beautifying proceedures prior to leaving sydney. "The Grudge" was watched and heckled, and yes it did look like SMG came to grief at the end..

Almost relaxed

Hot again?? Yep, it was. I rolled out of bed already soaked in sweat, I showered an did some medial chores. 1300hrs Eltham and I arrived at Kester's house, Lila was there, and Sal was soon to arrive. The mission as we had previously chosen to accept, was to go swimming at North Beach. Lathered in suncream, we walked to the beach. Water was cool. Waves, there was not. Kelp, there was aplenty. Sal and Lila struggled a losing battle against the current. I found something that resembled a bank, and body surfed a few waves. We then moved things back to the Bob, via some food establishments. Then when Rowan returned home from work, we crashed his place and swam there.
Slow day... I have them, I wish I had more of them.

Moonlit Paths

Awoken by unbearable heat, "stupid upstairs room" thought I. No time for breakfast. Out the door, onto motorcycle, university bound. ECU was having it's UNIstarters day, where all the first years come along and we (older christian brothers and sisters) show them that UNI can be a friendly place. We also share the secrets that we have learnt to survive studying.....Yeah, I don't really know why I was there either. I guess survive I do, but just barely. It was really encouraging to see all the older guys and gals seeking to love and encourage the newbies, and so very encouraging to see the newbies wanting to learn more about JC and being excited to serve on campus, Amen.

The afternoon boasted Banana milkshakes. 3 cheers for Janet and Sally, who were motivated enough to bring the ingredients, and order Eltham to go out and get others. They were fab. Shane arrived while we were lounging around, all of us knocked flat by the heat of the day. Shane has purchased a nice, not so little, Honda CBR. Apparently he picked it up last tuesday, I have to admit; even though I prefer riding off road, having the extra power his bike had would be very nice. Alright, alright, I was jealous, are you happy? The 250 definately struggles once Amanda is on the back, and it's a bit gutless to wheel stand. Janet fell asleep, missed out on getting a parking permit, then went to a Night church ministry team meeting. Sally on the other hand had her virginal viewing of everyones favourite sword weilding maniac "Beserk", once again Stu "great present". Janet came back, we all walked up Mt Kiera in the dark, I pee'd off a cliff, Chug pee'd in some bushes, we came home, at about midnight, and had dessert. Can you say "Chocolotartae"?

Man at arms

Since the world came into being, man has risen their fists against eachother. Lifted clubs to bring down on each others skulls. Picked up tools to tend the earth. Raised planes to the air only to drop bombs. Lifted rifles to spill blood. The Last 3 days I have been using my arms to lift boxes.
Thats right, the more observant of you will have noted in a previous post that my ambulance is currently unregistered. So why would someone call me to help them move whilst I am so vehicularly challenged??? The real question is; why not?? and my goodness is moving someone when you're not just a ring-in van/panno hard work..Let me tell you some phrases I totally used up over the last 3 days:

  • Are you really gonna use that?
  • Really?
  • You want...Where??
  • No, I don't have the tape.
  • Seriously man you're not gonna use that.
  • I'll get the bin..
  • Just throw it..
I'm sure there were many more, this experience has really helped me realise how much crap we all hold onto. I confess I am a hoarder. But, I tell you I'll be laughing when this 6inch piece of twine I found by the roadside in the great strom of '98 holds something together till I buy the proper part. So, I think I'm going to try and get rid of some of my excess stock of stuff.. This probably means Eltham willl get afew more shirts. It is also a very bonding experience helping someone go through their crap, and helping them start anew in a new residence.
To anyone out there who is thinking about moving house. No, I don't feel like helping you right now.. I've had mine, thankyou.
I'm just a fraction sore, old fridges and washing machines are heavy. Nuff said.
While all this was happening, one of my close mates, and X-Planet Bob resident, Luke, well his wife Jess had twins, with Luke's help. I tell you what, these are some damn fine looking kids. One boy and one girl, names Josh, and Elizabeth(Joshy and Ellie). Jesse reckons that Ellie is a miny her, and Luke spent most of friday quoting Dr Evil, including pinky finger poised to lip, "I call him miny me". It was pretty funny, or maybe I was tired. Last night I had a bit of a laughing spell, for no particular reason, tiredness was to blame for this. Speaking of tiredness, I'm going to bed. Even I get tired after a solid night of candle arranging.

The sounds of silence

Spent the day at home by myself today. Well Roscoe was walking around and stuff. T'was good I guess, with time to myself. Got through a few more pages of Gospel and Wisdom, by Goldsworthy. That book is seriously heavy going. My brain hurts just thinking about reading it again...
A short dip in the Ocean with the rest of the Evil-Faction. Then back to Janet's to get Eltham's car via Planet Bob, as Eltham had locked his key in the car, intentionally. Janet's mother cooked us dinner...Cheers mum.. it was great. Sim likes fried rice, much less pointless than boiled rice.
Returning to the Bob everyone was home, well lateish, but they were there..
We've also had a lodger for the last few days, Andrew, who Irwan calls Abang, meaning big brother. It's been good to have him around and have discussions with..
The night finished with the veiwing of some DVD's.. Adam Sandler's "Punch drunk love" and some war movie called "Surface to Air". If anyone else has seen this, please explain to me how this film got funding...Argh...
mmm slumber action.. See you there.

Helping Hands

I awoke this morning feeling rather seedy. Had the usual liquid breakfast; Glass of Milo and glass of apple juice. Ross had left the apple juice out, it was warm. On the moto by 0740hrs, at Amanda's by 0745hrs, walked with her to the University Chaplaincy office by 0800hrs.
Today was the enrollment day for double degrees. All the first years arriving, many holding hands with their mothers. So the ECU gang try their best to show them that University isn't all about Booze and cut-throat environments, but there is a bit of fellowship and Love around the place...plus some ducks. I had some great convo's with some of the parents of kids enrolling. I met this one guy, Roy, who moved to Australia from England back in 1961. Roy and I had a sweet as convo about war times and the psychology behind having faith in man...He was a rockin' dude.
Yesterday the Ambo had a rego inspection. The guy seemed more interested in the way my LPG sstem was connected than inspecting the vehicle properly. So he passed it, now I just have to try and find the money to afford the compulsory insurance and the registration. So not a good time of year...

Crosstown Trafficked

For those of you who know the musical exploits of Mr Hendrix, and Bob Dylan for that matter.
I've had a weekend of Crosstown Traffic, All along the Watchtower and Gypsy Eyes. But we'll give all credit to Hendrix for even Bob said after hearing Hendrix play all along the Watchtower, "I wrote that song for Jimi". I could throw a few more in there. I'm just pressing play on the ultimate experience album, as I reflect upon the weekend. So there may be a few more Hendrix remarks tonight..
Actually, if anyone is reading this, tell me how many Hendrix references you think I've made after this point.

Well the weekend began with a late rising. I forced myself to drink a glass of Milo. Knowing full well that the energy received from this beverage probably would not see me through to lunchtime. I then proceeded to replace the tube for the back of my mountain bike before Speed arrived. Chug was approached to drive the Ambo back from the drop off spot. Speed and I didn't feel the need to ride up Mount Kiera. With my car disapearing in the distance, Speed and I began our day just as the sun was reaching it's peak. Where are you when it's a hot cold summer?? Great ride.. the first 40minutes was just about all down hill.
When I'm riding I get alot of time to think about stuff, and it usually clears my head of all the white-noise thoughts and I get moments of clarity. Some times getting away from other people helps with that. So, I might as well go back over yonder, way back yonder cross the hill. Speed as usual is good realistic company encouraging and stuff... But while thinkin and riding I'm usually humming or singing. Music, sweet music. I wish I could caress.
Well no matter how good your thinking is, you still need to concentrate on the riding aswell. I had 2 pretty big offs. I blame the sunglasses. The transition from direct sunlight to shade caught me off guard a few times. The ride finished with Speed's knee packing it in. Thankfully by this time we were back in suburbia. He spent a few minutes in pain lying on someones driveway. Then to his legs he smiled you wont hurt me no more, and got up. But, they did and he hobbled back to his house. Where his mother was waiting with Doughnuts and Coke. Ah, Sugar sweet sweet sugar.
The original plan had been to ride then do the Maquarie Pass walk/swim. but it was a bit late. I had to be at a 21st by 1800hrs So we thought, I think we better wait till tomorrow. Speed and I kicked back back at The Bob and watched Swingers. Then I lost a game of pool to Him.
Picked Amanda up at about 1805hrs and headed off to Chuzz's 21st. Met people, ate food, too much ABBA. There was Karaoke.. mostly pop songs..I don't do Pop, but when enough people left the floor I did some Billy Idol-White Wedding, and some DEVO-Whip It, ah fun... Might get one of the new guys along for my riding trip over the Easter Long weekend. I did't know anyone at the Party except for the Birthday girl herself, so it was good being able to walk in with Amanda. Then she spread her wings high over me, said I'm gonna have to come back tomorrow, to Dapto early 'cause she was on music at Horsley Anglican Church.
So, Sunday morning, after burning the midnight lamp, I was at Horsley too. It's a really nice little church. The people are friendly and seem to really love eachother. The teaching is honest and determined. The talk this morning was quite challenging for me, as I seek for a balance between overcommiting to ministry oppurtunities and having a soul which is alive in the spirit, not simply being a busy soul(my paraphrasing). God is doing some awesome things down that neck of Wollongong. One of the guys there is from a band Soteria. I spoke to him for a while about guitars, music, recording, and the focus of christians who are doing music in somewhat of a secular media.
Sunday afternoon contained a few lighter activities. Speed and I hung out with a mutual friend Artsy. More pool, a bit of lunch, psyching his Dog up. Watched Supersize me, after a substanitial KFC meal. Started raining.. No Maquarie Passs today either thought I.
The Evening church service at St Mick's was pretty grood. It was also the first time I'd heard our new Rector type dude, Sandy Grant, give a talk. I enjoyed it and, I think it helped me focus a little more on how I should be praising an trusting God. Also, he reaffirmed something I'd been thinking of, in the difference between Vows and bargaining with God. There is one.(short answer).
Dinner was Macca's. I guess Supersize me didn't scare me off it. Some people watched Hewitt get thrashed in the Aussie Open, and so castles made of sand melts into the sea eventually. I ate and chatted, too many people in the TV room. Now I'm home.
Should sleep soon feels like my back hasn't seen a bed in so long, it's a sin.

Redeeming Hindquarters.

Been lost, been agitated. So you have to deal with the fact; that you have missed out on 2 weeks of my life. So deal. You survived before you began reading my dribble. Quick recap. Wombats & caving(somehow related). Storms & Motorcycling (also related). Camping & Pitching a tent.

Today we, team Evil-faction (now a website), journeyed up to Sydney to reclaim our Saru(sally) from Melbourne types. The Journey was short and high-spirited. Many smell jokes, and general enjoyments of each others existence. “The Beast” purred her way up the h’way. Tunes burst forth in glorious day, from Sabbath to Type O, and much random worship Cd of which I don’t know the artist, left it was in my car by the Manda lady.

Upon retrieving Saru from the place where metal birds land (without fire). The valiant crew continued to find a place to relieve Simon’s and Eltham’s Bladders. Janet also required this service. To Rockdale it was Macca’s the place, no food did we eat, only pee’d in the appropriate place. The random shops in the vicinity were viddy’d. Books were bought and so were some presents. Lunch, a kebab, mixed meat, Extra chicken. 1400hrs came around to the book store we ran…Many books were there, purchased, excited were we. It was awesome to see S, J and E so keen for stuff in a Christian Bookstore.

Then homeward bound with 2 short stopovers, My parents and Dad’s folks, chores to do had I. Computers ‘O computers, Why do Older generations bother??? You can’t understand them, and “yes, you’ve made shortcuts”. “Then what are these here?”

Back in the gong, and nobody at Planet Bob. I was supposed to go out on the street van tonight. Unfortunately everyone pulled out. So, a quiet night at home with Amanda and whoever was in order. Whoever turned out to be Speed and Sally. Adrian Edmonson’s How to Be a complete Bastard the game we played…Biggest Bastard turned out to be me.

During the Game Roscoe rang to tell me he would be home late, and not to worry. I appreciated that…sensitivity amongst scoundrels.

Anyhow the time of sleep draws near. Into the bosom of unconsciousness I trust my entity. And if I die before I wake, pray the Lord my soul to take.

The Remaining Odour

The morning was met with chime of phone, calling upon this worker drone.
"May I use your muscles and your truck" enquired the Lady Farquar.
"Ofcourse," said I, gazing at the ceiling through foggy (froggy) eyes.

Well, thats how the morning began. It was alright, I was expecting the call. Had to finish moving some female friends in to their new accomodation. When you drive a truck it's fair to assume you'll be doing mates favours. God's vehicle/servant and all that.
I'm currently pulling my room apart looking for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TMNT movie. A group of us are going to watch the TMNT trilogy today. Should be fun.

What does any of this have to do with the entry title?? Nothing. But there was remnants of burnt oil still producing stench in the kitchen. Hopefully that gives you enough closure.

Riding the sugar railway

Morning has more than broken. Had an interview this morning, was 2 minutes late. But, that’s just Jim Dandy as their computers were down. The worst part about riding a moto is, having to put on a Jacket in summer. Thankfully the day is not too hot yet. Home by 1000 hrs, quick chat with the amazing El Thumbo, quick chat with Roscoe, Time for breakfast. NO MILO. Ah…. Should have seen me sobbing like a school girl. However, in the cupboard was sweet sweet Fruitloops. I tell ya, Toucan Sam is onto something. Now back to the day, lest it unfold without me.

Just in case you care. Last night I found my chocolate. It was really good. As wicket would say “Jubb jubb”.

Back from outer space

Well, another year is over (and a new one’s begun). What better way to start the new-year than to cause more congestion upon this eternal(?), internetial, medium, upon which we all seem to rely so heavily?

Now I contemplate whether I’m continuing on as part of the problem, a hindrance to a final solution. Perhaps I’m being characteristically pessimistic. I like to think that I’m refreshingly pessimistic in this world of hot pink midriff wearing, programmed pop listening, mobile phone carrying, boy and girls. You can wear pink if you want to. Yellow if it’s your thing. Permit me my sunglasses. I am light sensitive after all. Perhaps I just really want chocolate….

I’m just back from Beach mission, in Byron Bay, and I’m still energised from the whole experience. It was so incredibly awesome to hang with so many people seeking to genuinely love people, and offcourse the amazing way God works in and through people. Now that I’m home I don’t know what to do with myself. More than a month before I go back to uni, God willing my last session. I know the things I need to do before I go back; my room is a mess, the tail-lights on the truck need attention, need to speak to subject advisors, try and find some paid work, and keep serving those I care about. The best thing about being home….Couches, man, couches are awesome.

Water temperature is on my mind. This morning I had my first surf since getting back from Byron. The water is colder down in the Gong. Young Dan from Church came out for a paddle, beautiful conditions, decently sized swell. Dan’s wetsuit was hurting him somewhere, I copped a board on the top of the foot (I hate limping). Wouldn’t want to change anything about the day for a second.

Alrighty. That’s all you get right now. I’m gonna hunt da chocolatate’
