The Face only a mother could love

For those who haven’t been to my parents place for a couple of years(or ever). A quick feline update:
Sam, the white cat: Death by meteor, Ford Meteor(sadly I was at the wheel).

Matilda: run over by car, not me(thankfully).

Cleopatra, a cat with Egyptian make-up: died due to spider a bite.

Ruth: Sadly still alive.

Cats, like people, have individual personalities. Some cats are soft and beautiful, snuggling up to people as they sit in front of the TV. Some cats are fast, frisky, and erratic in their behaviour. However some cats, like some people, are just plain losers. (I was thinking about so many others terms here, but I’m going for a G to PG rating) Going back through the list of cats….

Sam: Was a beautiful little fluff ball. He may have been brain damaged, but he just loved all creatures. A couple of quick stories… He used to sit out the front and giant dogs would come and threaten to maul his little body, in the way dogs do, all bark, growl and drool. Sam was so brain damaged that these large carnivores would get bored and walk away before Sam would even react. I would regularly, and confidently, leave my two mice crawling all over him. One of my school mates actually thought Sam was a statue for several years, as he had never seen Sam in a different location… For those who were concerned about the mice, they never got eaten.

Matilda: A very affectionate little cat, with an odd habit of sucking on people’s necks. I was not warned about this, and was awoken one morning to a very disturbing sensation. Enough on that….DEE..STIR..BING

Cleo: According to dad…”There was nothing wrong with Cleo. The perfect Cat” Nuff said me thinks.. However..for those in the know…Take that Thomas…(smile)

Now, or meow, that the scene is set.

Come with me if you will to present day. I once again have been asked to watch the house, and all the little hairy people contained within. Thus, the rant actually begins here.

I have no problem with the rat, he’s a pleasant little chap. However, I shan’t be keeping Algernon on my shoulder as I do the housework. Nor have I any problems with either Winnie nor Baz. Yes, they are big, smelly, and Winnie bites, literally, I’ve been bitten many times myself. Winnie does care about her people a lot, she likes to be near them, she just doesn’t like to be told to get out at night…well, told to do anything at all really. As long as things are on her terms everything runs smoothly. Shock news to animal pushovers people rule over animals. We just do. Opposable phalanges, otherwise known as thumbs, are a testament to the human mastery. ( If you feel shocked and/or horrified over the idea of Human mastery please email, and we shall discuss in greater detail. I might even use pictures) Baz on the other hand is a boofhead a big loveable, Border Collie sized lapdog, but a boofhead none the less. No issues there..

It’s the cat that is the problem. Ruth be her name, or as I call her, Golem. Truly the ugliest fluffball on the planet. It’s not that she attacks you when you’re not looking, for we all know, I’d enjoy that. It’s not that she defecates in annoying places. Although, she does in the washbasins of any given bathroom of my parent’s house. (Feel like washing your hands anyone?) The problem is she’s a timid cat.. the worst kind. You know that they’re always out planning something. Golem has my old man twisted around her finger. My parents often don’t go away because dad, the big softy he is, is afraid that Golem will turn into a cabbage without his love and affection.

Maybe Golem is just a two person cat. I can dig that. I’ll also submit to the suggestion that perhaps the extra noise that surrounds me is a little disturbing for a small hairy Golem. (Amanda often makes helpful suggestions how to curb this noise for good instead of evil). Call me old fashioned. But, if a cats not up to being, dragged around the room by it’s tail, rubbed with a balloon for static charging, slid around on it’s back till both the cat and catter are dizzy, then there is no point in having the cat at all.

For those of you wanting closure on this particular line of thoughts....
Heres a conselation prize.

Today’s Word wealth

Why Golem? Big Eyes and Ugly, colours also not helping the cause.

Fluffball? Yes, yes they are.

Boofhead? I was surprised but this was in my spell check, no options for a synonym thou’.

Meteor? Fast little black thing

Cabbage? A type of vegetable, Not favourable/not to go favourably

Algernon? Needs flowers. Sad story…

Over worked & over committed, but it's a beautiful ride

Well, it’s about that time of year again. Ambient temperature is increasing, water temp. is rising, flowers are blooming, uni/college commitments are becoming increasingly taxing.
Amidst all this spring is bringing on the Weddings.

Well, this week started differently than most, I wasn’t at work. My absence was not due to sickness, but, due to a necessity of putting my head down to study for an exam on Wednesday. (note: multiple choice math exams are not as fun as they sound) After attending the exam on Wednesday, I can most assuredly say, “yes, I was there”.

On Wednesday afternoon I took to the streets, on the trail bike, asking every motorcycle mechanic in Wollongong for their waste motorcycle sprockets. I am collecting parts for my functional art…. Sadly, I was merely a day behind the metal recyclers, will try again next fortnight.

Friday brought about some interesting developments.
WORK

I was called into the division head’s office and given the 411 of their requirements of my services as a contractor, and once again questioned as to whether I was willing to come on board full-time. Admittedly the security of such an offer is always very tempting, however I don’t see my self staying in this job for many more years, and while I’m a contractor they are always looking to replace me with full time staff. So, if I was to pick up my pegs and seek to be trained at MTS or otherwise I wouldn’t feel guilty about leaving work short staffed.
I do love my work, as all will attest, but my desire to share the Gospel is my main driving force at work…. And often my routine work, seems to get in the way of a great conversation.. (If you’re the praying sort, pray for me in this… more news at 11).
VEHICLE
Well for those of you who don’t know…. The Ambo is gone…SOLD.. much to the sadness of both myself and Amanda. We had a picnic in it as a bit of a send off… Well the new vehicle has been the part of its fair share of controversies. The latest of which will be involving the department of Fair trades… Some people are unreasonable, and stupid to boot..
JOY UPON JOYS
My good friends and sharers in the eternal inheritance that comes through Jesus Christ our Lord and saviour, Joe and Carly got married yesterday, and what an awesome wedding it was. Joe played guitar, Carly sang, our great friend and brother Alex Yim lead the congregation with Gusto. The enthusiasm and heartfelt joy was not only evident in the musical worship, but throughout the whole service, the message which reminded us that man and woman are made for God/Jesus first, and together they seek after him. I will be continuing to pray for J&C as they are a new family together for Christ.
ECU SUPPORTERS DINNER
What an awesome night of seeing what is happening around the campus of UoW. I loved seeing the people who I had prayed, shared, and read the bible with for years, all come back, continuing be partners through prayer and financial giving. I loved chatting with my brothers… Organising adventures with Graeme, and the Lobbster. But I loved catching up with Roscoe, as he continues to shine his love of the Gospel and people (in that order) in the workplace. I do miss having Ross in the house. Oh well…Go God… your ways are perfect and awesome..

Blessed are the upright

It was the week before Christmas, and all through the mountains, not a creature was stirring except 3 lunatics on big trail riding thumpers.
The plan had been to travel from Wombeyan caves to Jenoleon Caves via the lime burners fire trail. However, about 8 people had pulled out of the adventure, including all our support 4wds so we were left with 3 riders and no way to carry our luggage. Instantly the adventure took on a new spin. We decided to set a base camp and try as many trails as we could find from there.
Doug and myself journeyed through the night, up and down winding trails in “The Beast”, who I might add purred nicely along the rough terrain, carrying the load of supplies, trailbikes, and occupants within headbanging to DreamEvil… Children of the night searching for the light far away…(sim returns both hands to keyboard…more typing less air guitar). Camp was set up in the dark, a few curious kangaroos looked on, jealous of our veritable feast for two. Hearty beef stews and selection of fruits. We awoke the next morning to the approaching diesel thump of our third rider’s truck. Graeme had gotten up at 3am to leave Orange. This, ladies and gentleman, is commitment to the cause.
The riding started well about 60 km of winding and undulating track. The bikes thrived on the mountain fresh air. The amazing cliffs serving as sound reflectors for the throbbing machines.
Towards the end of the first days riding, on a steep downhill, my rear wheel came about causing the bike to tumble to the ground, followed quite quickly by myself. It was a relatively low speed crash and I stood up with out injury. However on my way to picking up the bike my boots, not allowing for ankle movement, slipped on the steep and loose surface, folding my knee in an altogether unnatural way. The pain was real but not till returning to base camp did the swelling actually start.
For the duration of the adventure I manned the fire, played with kangaroos and hopped after goannas. Returning home I promptly took myself to the Physio to discover I had damaged my medial and postial ligaments. All good really. The time on my back was not wasted, I spent fair portion of time writing a talk on John 12 for beach mission. God does indeed intend for all of us to be in his house.

I can't believe it's not Study

Well, I'm sure some of you whom know me are shocked at the revelation that I am working. Well, I am, so just accept it and we can move right along. I really do love work.. It’s not the travel, it’s not the money (although not having to borrow is helpful, and serving). I feel like a business running out of the back of a car…. Lot’s of people but low overheads. The overheads I’m referring to are Assignments and exams that loom during uni sessions. The people, well they are work colleagues. Work is a great place to realise that Jesus is rightly first in our life. Now the challenge is to live that realisation like it’s true. ‘Cause it is you know… true.
Work is a great place for building relationships and generally serving people. People will usually respond well to being treated well, and realise the Christ in us as we seek to love those around us. What happens then? God is glorified. Don’t be afraid to say why you’re differently motivated. For Christ’s sake we exist.. Oh yeah, me. Well, I have agreed to a 12 month contract, couldn’t agree to more at this point. Future availability depends on How wells ome things go. Pray as I now face the task of juggling work and uni.
At least I’m not studying Quantum Physics, hang on I am.
